Why did you decide to study at The School of The New York Times?

2020欧洲杯客户端下载I had heard about The School of The New York Times from a family friend who had taken the course. My dean at my school had also suggested that I take it. I wanted to be apart of a program that offered sports management and I had heard great things about the New York Times course, so I decided to study there.

Which course did you take and why?

I took the Sports Management course in New York because I have always had a passion for sports. I wanted to see how there could be a career in sports without having to be a player. It seemed like a real possible career opportunity to me, so I wanted to learn more about the topic with the great instructors The School of The New York Times provides.

If you had to name one thing that you learned from your time here, what is that one takeaway that will stay with you?

I think the one takeaway that will stay with me is the importance of building and maintaining connections in life. My sports management teacher always told us that connections are one of the most important things in the industry and that the people sitting next to us could potentially help us in the future. In a short two week span, students were able to forge connections for life, which is something I will always try to do now. I took this advice to heart and learned that you should always try to connect with people because you don’t know where that moment of kindness can take you.

What was your favorite site visit?

My favorite site visit was the FanVest Panel because it was an exclusive event that I would not have otherwise had the opportunity to attend. We visited some of the industry’s top experts and leaders, all while having the opportunity to ask them questions at an event with other people in the field. It was an opportunity most kids wouldn’t have and I learned so much, which is why it was my favorite site visit.

Who was the most memorable guest speaker?

2020欧洲杯客户端下载The most memorable guest speaker was Terry Lyons. Not only did he work for the NBA, one of the most popular leagues, but he was an amazing storyteller. His stories were fascinating and so interesting, which is why he was so memorable. He made me want to have a career in this industry even more.

What were your faculty like?

2020欧洲杯客户端下载My faculty were amazing because not only were they helpful, but they also taught me life-lessons that apply to things beyond sports management. They were over-qualified and they were definitely very informed on Sports Management. I was lucky to have the opportunity to have them as my teachers.

What does The New York Times mean to you?

To me, The New York Times is one of the most famous newspapers that has many sections and covers one of the busiest cities in the world. However, they are more than just a mere local newspaper, they are a national one, that also diversifies their interests by holding camps for high school students. They are more than just a newspaper.

What does it mean to you to study in New York City?

To me, studying in New York City is an opportunity to get accustomed to one of the most important cities in the world. It is an opportunity to explore a place in a less touristy way and in more of a local way. For my subject, studying in New York is the best opportunity, as it is the hub where all of the leagues are based and where most big sports industry jobs take place.

What do you think you want to be when you grow up?

2020欧洲杯客户端下载When I grow up, I think I want a job within the sports industry. However, I am keeping my options open, as I don’t want to decide too early.
