Why did you decide to study at The School of The New York Times?
I decided to study at The New York Times because my class looked extremely fascinating and I wanted to spend more time getting to know New York.
Which course did you take and why?
I took Harry Potter and the Cursed Child from Page to Stage in New York. I have always loved Harry Potter. I can’t help but smile whenever I think about it. Learning that there was a course solely focused on one of the things I love most instantly drew me into the NYT and I knew I had to take it.
If you had to name one thing that you learned from your time here, what is that one takeaway that will stay with you?
One takeaway I have is that I shouldn’t be afraid when I’m in a situation where I have no friends. The NYT taught me that I am perfectly capable of making friends and that there are other people who feel the same way. It also taught me that those friends can become some of your favorite people very quickly.
What was your favorite site visit?
I loved going to the Met because I am obsessed with Camp. Seeing the exhibit was a dream come true and I feel so lucky that I got to go. It was especially wonderful to see it with people who were also excited about it and then to discuss it afterwards.
Who was the most memorable guest speaker?
We got to speak to Colin Callendar. He is the producer of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. All of the stories he told as well as his thoughts on the world of Broadway made him very memorable. Everything he said was well thought out and valuable information. He was also a pleasure to be around, making him all the more interesting.
What were your faculty like?
I loved my faculty! While none of them really had any Harry Potter expertise, they all had valuable opinions to offer on examining Harry Potter and writing about it. They were all really fantastic people and I was lucky to have them as my teachers.
